【弘前下川原焼（したかわらやき）土人形とは？】
文化三年（一八〇六年）ころ、筑前から伊万里の技法を習得した津軽藩士高谷金蔵が下川原（現在の弘前市桔梗野）に窯を築きました。
その後、津軽藩九代藩主寧親は津軽の地に子供らの玩具が少ないことを憂い、冬季の閑散期を利用して土人形等を作るよう命じました。それが下川原焼のはじまりだと言われています。
この土人形制作はそれ以来、今日まで約二百年間受け継がれています。現在は、当時の子供たちがおもちゃとして遊んだ鳩笛、津軽の風俗や行事を表現した風俗人形、庶民の需要に応じて作られた干支人形や蝋人形が作られています。
素朴な土人形としての伝統を受け継ぎ、ひとつひとつ心をこめて手作りでしあげています。

Shitakawara-yaki Miss Forest
The Aomori Prefectural Museum of Art's “Aomori Dog” and “Miss Forest” have been made into earthenware dolls by Shitakawara-yaki, a traditional craft in Hirosaki.
Each clay doll is still handmade one by one, so there are slight differences between each piece. Please note that due to the nature of online shopping, you may not be able to choose your favorite one.

＜What is Hirosaki Shitakawara-yaki clay figurines?＞
Around 1806 (Bunka 3), Takaya Kinzo, a Tsugaru Domain samurai who had learned the Imari technique from Chikuzen, built a kiln in Shitakawara (present-day Kikyono, Hirosaki City).
Later, Yasuchika, the ninth lord of the Tsugaru domain, was concerned about the lack of children's toys in Tsugaru, and ordered the production of clay figures during the off-season in winter. This is said to be the beginning of Shitakawara Pottery.
Since then, the production of clay dolls has been handed down for about 200 years. Currently, the earthenware is used to make pigeon flutes, which children played with as toys in those days, customs dolls representing Tsugaru customs and events, zodiac dolls and wax figures made in response to the demand of the general populace.
Inheriting the tradition of simple clay dolls, each doll is handmade with care.
